Key takeaways from a Group 54 conversation with Victor Busson, Chief Marketing Officer at Taurus SA

For our second Group54 speaker session, we were joined by Victor Busson, Chief Marketing Officer at Taurus SA, for a deep dive into one of the most debated technologies of the last decade: blockchain.

Victor helped ground the discussion in what actually matters: what this technology is, why it exists, and what problems it is trying to solve.

We started with Bitcoin and the context in which it emerged after the 2008 financial crisis, before moving into how blockchain works as a shared, tamper-resistant record of transactions. From there, we looked at how Ethereum pushed things further by enabling smart contracts and opening the door to programmable financial systems.

From there, the discussion moved towards where the industry is heading. We covered topics including decentralised finance (DeFi), tokenisation of real-world assets, stablecoins, institutional adoption, regulation, privacy, and the role AI agents could play in a future where software can own wallets and transact autonomously.

One of the most interesting parts of the evening was the open discussion. Participants challenged ideas around privacy, regulation, Bitcoin’s role as a store of value, and whether blockchain is solving real problems today or simply laying the foundations for tomorrow’s financial infrastructure. The conversation also touched on market cycles, institutional trends, and the balance between decentralisation and usability as the industry matures.

Whether attendees were already working in digital assets or simply curious about the space, the session provided an opportunity to step back from the day-to-day news cycle and think more critically about where the technology is genuinely creating value—and where the hype still outweighs reality.

A huge thank you to Victor for sharing his experience, answering every question with honesty, and helping make another excellent Group54 discussion possible.

We’re looking forward to many more conversations like this as the Group54 community continues to grow.
